New Ward Building

The Requirement

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust had a need for interim ward accommodation ahead of the traditionally busy winter months and to act as a ‘decant' facility to allow the upgrading of wards.

The Solution

A two-storey 17,600sqft modular building accommodates two new 28-bed wards, and was completed in just two and a half months. It is located in front of the busy Hull Royal Infirmary building and is linked to the main hospital by a specially constructed enclosed link corridor at ground level. The interim building will remain in place for around 18 months while the construction of a permanent medical ward block is carried out.

The building comprises 52 steel-framed modules and on each of the two floors, there is a ward containing four 6-bed rooms and four single-bed rooms each with ensuite facilities.

Each ward has a nurse's station and offices, treatment rooms, staff changing rooms and rest rooms, a fully fitted kitchen, store rooms, a linen room, and clean and dirty utilities.
