New Cardiac Catheter Lab for South Warwickshire General Hospital
The Requirement
South Warwickshire General Hospital NHS Trust had a need for a cardiac angiography laboratory in order to respond to the Government’s commitment to improving and expanding facilities for the treatment of heart disease.
The Solution
Built off-site by Foremans, the new purpose-designed facility accommodates highly specialised x-ray technology for the diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions.
The single-storey lab comprises radiology, waiting area, recovery bays, nurse’s station, treatment room and toilets. It was built in just 12 weeks and is linked to the main hospital building.
Foremans’ approach allowed the trust to benefit from all the advantages of modular building – a faster programme time, improved quality, and less disruption to staff and patients during construction.
There were also the additional benefits of a standardised and proven laboratory design, and greater value for money because the building is made from refurbished pre-owned modules.
Comments from the Client
A spokesperson for the Estates Department at South Warwickshire General Hospital NHS Trust:
"We needed to improve our capacity and on-site facilities to enable us to offer enhanced imaging and diagnostics, replacing the mobile unit that visited the hospital six times a year. The quality of the new building is excellent and I am pleased to report it was delivered on time and on budget."
"The cardiac lab is Foremans’ fourth contract for the Trust, and follows the successful completion of two ward projects. Their performance and approach has been very good, despite having to work on constrained and challenging sites."
