How does modular construction work?
Modular buildings are constructed from two or more steel-framed units, or ‘modules’. These are connected side-by-side or end-to-end and in multiple storeys, up to three storeys high, to create buildings of any size or configuration to accommodate hundreds of people, if required. It generates less than 10% of the carbon emissions of an equivalent newly manufactured building1 and requires a fraction of the on-site vehicle movements, since most construction work takes place in the factory.
