5th Jun 2007 – Dramatic Increase in Demand for Pre-owned Modular Buildings
Figures released by Foremans Relocatable Building Systems, the UK’s largest supplier of recycled and refurbished modular buildings, indicate that the demand for this highly sustainable approach to construction is increasing dramatically.
In the past three years, Foremans’ turnover has grown by 35 per cent. Sales enquiries are up by 60 per cent and the average project size completed by Foremans has increased by 25 per cent.
Kevin Jones, Managing Director of Foremans, said, "More organisations than ever before are taking advantage of the benefits of the pre-owned approach. Sustainability is a key issue among construction clients and will continue to increase in importance with the impact of global warming and as legislation and tax changes are introduced to reduce carbon emissions."
"This method of construction uses less than three per cent of the energy required to build or manufacture an equivalent new building – and the process generates less than 10 per cent of the carbon emissions. It is a highly sustainable alternative to the demolition and disposal of buildings in landfill sites and has now been recognised by the Government as benefiting the environment."
Foremans’ approach to building offers all the advantages of off-site construction – speed, quality and reduced disruption – with the additional benefits of exceptional value for money and a higher degree of environmental sustainability because the modules supplied are pre-owned and fully refurbished.
Building modules are upgraded and reconfigured by Foremans to the client’s specific requirements, for either permanent or temporary accommodation. This minimises wastage and energy consumption, and allows other organisations to benefit from the advantages of off-site construction.
All refurbished Portakabin buildings supplied by Foremans comply with the latest Building Regulations Part L (2006). The steel-framed modular buildings can be purchased, refurbished and relocated in single and multi-storey configurations for a wide range of uses, including classrooms, nurseries, lecture theatres, offices, ward accommodation and airport buildings.
Construction clients can hire, purchase or lease their accommodation for unrivalled flexibility and to help meet changing local needs. A ‘buy back’ option is also available for modules bought from Foremans, giving customers the opportunity to meet immediate requirements with the certainty that they have a disposal strategy in place for when the building is no longer required.
