11th Jun 2009 – A Sustainable Way of Disposing of Surplus Modular Buildings

Foremans Relocatable Building Systems is looking to expand its stocks of pre-owned modular buildings to meet the demand for its services, and will buy, remove and recycle quality single or multi-storey modular accommodation that is surplus to requirements.

This gives organisations with modular buildings that are no longer required, or too large to meet their changing needs, a sustainable, fast and cost-effective means of disposing of excess accommodation.

Foremans, the UK’s largest purchaser of pre-owned modular buildings, removes up to 1,000 steel-framed modules every year from sites across the UK as demand for its building services continues to increase.

The recycling and refurbishment of modular buildings is now recognised as one of the most sustainable methods of construction – reducing the volume of waste sent to landfill and preserving the structural elements of a building which have significant embodied energy.

Foremans will undertake a full site survey and evaluation free of charge anywhere in the UK, and will remove each building to an agreed programme and with the minimum disruption.

The dismantling of modular buildings is classed as demolition under Construction Design and Management (CDM) legislation and the client has legal responsibilities to ensure that this work is undertaken safely by a competent contractor.

The decommissioning and removal of full or part-buildings is carried out by Foremans’ fully trained in-house site teams, in compliance with all health and safety, and CDM regulations. Foremans will also prepare the required documentation for the CDM process.

The recycling and refurbishment of modular buildings is up to 70 per cent faster than new build, is highly cost effective and provides quality buildings for a wide range of temporary or permanent applications – from offices to teaching blocks, airport buildings, nurseries and hospital ward accommodation.
