Foremans lauches design for modular cardiac catheter laboratory

Foremans Relocatable Building Systems, the UK’s largest supplier of pre-owned modular buildings, has launched a standardised design for a cardiac angiography laboratory in response to the Government’s commitment to improving and expanding facilities for the treatment of heart disease.

The cardiac laboratory was developed in partnership with South Warwickshire General Hospital NHS Trust, whose patients are now benefiting from a purpose-designed facility, built off-site by Foremans to accommodate highly specialised x-ray technology for the diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions.

Foremans’ approach gives health service providers all the advantages of modular building – faster programme times, improved quality and less disruption to staff and patients during construction – with the additional benefits of a standardised and proven laboratory design, and value for money because the building is made from refurbished pre-owned modules.

The single-storey lab building comprises radiology, waiting area, recovery bays, nurse’s station, treatment room and toilets. It can be built in just 12 weeks and linked to other hospital buildings.

A spokesperson for the Estates Department at South Warwickshire General Hospital NHS Trust, said, "We needed to improve our capacity and on-site facilities to enable us to offer enhanced imaging and diagnostics, replacing the mobile unit that visited the hospital six times a year. The quality of the new building is excellent and I am pleased to report it was delivered on time and on budget."

The recycling and refurbishment of modular buildings is one of the most environmentally friendly methods of construction, but with no compromise on quality. Research has shown that materials wastage and energy consumption are minimised and less than 10 per cent of the carbon dioxide is generated compared to a newly manufactured building of equivalent size.

Foremans is also the first company to offer three-year product and ten-year structural warranties on refurbished modular buildings, giving health authorities and trusts further confidence in the quality, strength and long-term durability of this highly sustainable, fast and cost-effective method of construction.

The product warranty covering the external fabric of the building and structural warranty for the load-bearing elements are now available as standard for fully refurbished buildings supplied by Foremans using the Portakabin Duplex modular systems.
