Scholes School, Leeds

"The contract for the new teaching block at Scholes School in Leeds was won by Foremans in competitive tender, but their previous performance on other projects for Leeds City Council was definitely a factor. The sustainability benefits of this type of construction were also important.

Foremans performed very well on the project, which replaced some dilapidated classrooms with a new, larger block.

One of the major advantages of building with pre-owned modules is the short timescale for on-site work compared with traditional methods of construction. This was particularly useful for the Scholes project because the original building was in use until the end of the summer term. Demolition works began at the start of the summer holidays and the new accommodation was handed over before the autumn half term.

The new building was delivered on time and on budget and we were particularly impressed with the quality of finish. We also liked the higher ceilings that the high bay modular units offered.

The building is brick clad to complement the existing school and the surrounding residential environment."
